Radio Silence: Boris Grebenshikov, Aquarium
Radio Silence was the title single of an album by Boris Grebenshchikov, leader of the Russian group Aquarium.
The album was recorded in 1989 in studios in the USA, UK, and Canada, mostly with Western musicians, and produced by David A. Stewart of Eurythmics. It was hailed as the first contract of a Russian (then, Soviet) rock musician with a Western label.
Having by then achieved the status of the most prominent rock musician in Russia, Boris had just recently been permitted to travel abroad (thanks to perestroika). On most tracks, only Alexander Titov (bass) is of the then-current Russian Aquarium band, the rest being Western musicians (with the exception of Death of King Arthur where many Aquarium musicians can be heard). It was originally planned that the album would have half songs in Russian and half in English, but in the final album there are only two Russian songs on the B side.
After the Radio Silence project, Grebenshikov returned to Russia and embarked upon an extraordinary, decade-long run of classic Russian-language albums, producing some of the most beloved and critically acclaimed material of his career. Today he is a respected "senior statesman" in the world of Russian rock music.

I love Boris Grebenshchikov. I made the pilgrimage to his apartment building in Leningrad in 1989 and have loved him ever since. He is a brilliant man and musician.

Love this song. This album was actually very good in spite of the obstacles and time limitations involved in producing it. BG’s natural passion was evident throughout. Now I will look to see if there is a video for “Young Lions”!;)
Love this one! Brings back memories of seeing BG in concert (pre-perestroika)–what a thrill that was. Thanks so much for the upload!
awesome r’n'r song
miles away wild child madmen and dream child
dance in an open field of strangers
celebrating the new year in light reconized as silence
in the cerulean surroundings of the Chelsea Hotel
love will see you through
Awesome! I loved this album when it first came out. Such a great pop song.
